The square and compass symbol is one of the best known symbols of Freemasonry. Along with the Book of the Sacred Law, the square and the compass make the great lights of Freemasonry.
Consisting of two working tools architect, and masons, this symbol is linked directly to the masonry so-called operational, linked to the figure of Hiram Abiff. The symbols were used in conjunction with already in the seventeenth century, but it is only in the next century that they are actually encoded, together with the other Masonic symbols.
